  1. You can always try the obvious - ask the tax-man.

Over the years I have had nothing but help from my local Inland Revenue office. Taking the decision to make the first contact is the hardest bit; after that - so long as you are honest with them - I have found the staff to be approachable and helpful.

It really is worth the effort, and even if you are not entitled to anything you'll be no worse off.

But you won't know unless you pick up the phone and ask...

  2. If your tax code was correct before you were off sick, then yes, you will be owned money as you will not have used all your tax allowance.  If you call your tax office they will be able to sort it out, assuming your employer has provided all the required information to them for tax year 07/08.

  3. Would need to know dates involved to answer this in detail, as the tax year ended/new year starts in April.

If employer paid you any SSP, and kept you on payroll, I would have expected him to make any refund due to you. The tax office will always check position for you, if you are unsure. Send them form P60, and ask for computation/any repayment due.
