How do i know if my alternator it's not working?

Dont ever disconnect the positive cable on the battery to see if its working u could blow out the computer in your car. If the alternator is bad your battery meter in the dash will go up all the way,battery keeps dying, could go to most auto parts stores (autozone) they do have machines to test it, its better to take it off the vehicle because theres two ways to test it and taking it off will assure u the best results. Other problems  could be u have a bad positve connection or no ground.

Get it tested at the auto parts store.

If your battery keeps dieing even a brand new one it is one of two things either it is shorting out or not charging.

This is an old trick.

1. start the car

2. disconnect the battery on the positive side

if the car keeps working, your alternator may be ok

if the car stops that is one sign of a bad alternator.

Take it to Auto Zone or someplace similar.  They can check to see how many ohms-or whatever it is putting out.  They can tell you if the alternator is bad or not.
