  1. They will hang out together all the time, usually guarding a certain part of the tank, chasing other fish away.

  2. well that all depends on their s*x doesnt it?

you will be able to tell if they are a pair if they are with each other all the time, i had a pair of them, its very easy to tell believe me.

  3. I got some balloon Rams a while ago.  They were young and hard to tell the s*x but I can clearly tell that I have 2 males Nelson and millhouse.  One is a bully and one is shy.

All Rams have a dorsal fin and if the firt 3 spikes are longer then the rest it is a male. Thats the best way to tell but when they are young it is hard to tell.  They might look like friends now but once they get use to their new home they might start picking on each other.  That's what mine did. When I first put them in they hung out together it was cute.  Now Nelson will not let millhouse near him.  but the tank is large so they can have thier own space.

Check the Dorsle fin.  If you have a male and a female they will pair up.

Sexing: There is little sexual dimorphism when young. Males are slimmer and not as stocky than females and also have extensions on the upper and inner rays of the dorsal and caudal fins. Another difference is the dorsal on the males is more pointed and elongated.
