  1. You get papers from the breeder.

If you bought him from a reputable breeder, and they told you it was registered, then they will have the paperwork.  If you cat was a shelter cat, there is no way of knowing if they didn't receive the papers from the previous owners.  Either way, if you are asking because you want to breed - then just having papers wouldn't help - the mate must have papers as well, and you must keep the mates quarantined together until you are sure the female is pregnant.  Otherwise, make sure you spay/neuter your cats.

  3. If you don't have papers for your cat, it is not registered. Here's your sign.

  4. A Certified Pedigree will be issued only when three or more generations of ancestry are registered or recorded with CFA.

  5. the breeder should give you the forms, usually from Cat Fanciers of America (the AKC of cats)

    if you reeeeeallllly want to know the breed for sure and for certain, you can have its DNA tested
