  1. You check the fuel pressure.

That is a great question, by the way.  You're much smarter than all these guys that post "my truck won't start, so I replaced the fuel pump, computer, battery, tires, muffler, coil, plugs, windshield, headlights, seat, transmission, carpet, etc. etc. etc. etc. but it still won't start.  Does anybody have any ideas?"

  2. disconnect the fuel line before the fuel filter and attach a fuel pressure gauge and compare the reading with your repair manual

  3. check the fuel pump presser should be on the fuel injectors lines it looks like a stem 4 the tire just push in the stem. if fuel shots out its good.

  4. simple a fuel pump works or it doesnt there is no half way about them you can connect a gauge on you fuel line under your hood right before your injectors check your pressure or you can to try to start it up and press with your thumb the little valve that look a tire valve take off the cap and try it . if it squirts gas you have a fonctionnal pump other than that could filter and so forth

  5. you perform a standing and a running fuel pressure test and compare your results with specifications.

  6. you,ll know if its bad by the way it will run it will hesitate all the time and you may hear a sound coming from the gas tank at times like a squealing sound from it,they will also be hard to start and die out at times, you will also notice a big loss in power at times, and you can run a pressure test on the pump its self and see what it reads, this is the most accurate way of telling if one is bad,but even a dirty filter will make one seem like the pump is bad when it isnt,so dont get foolded by a pressure check, sometimes they arent that accurate, good luck.
