  1. There is an extremely good chance that you have a same-s*x pair. Pet stores generally don't do a great job of telling them apart (happened to me).  Same s*x pairs (mainly males) will try to mate anyway.  Just to make sure check the spacing between the genitals and the a**s. males will have a much larger spacing and females will be closer together. If you do happen to have a male and female and you do not want them to breed, i strongly recommend separating them, and getting them each a same s*x buddy. If you do not separate them just keep a close eye on your female.  I hope this helped.

  2. http://www.gerbilbreeding.com/sexing.htm

that all you need to know

  3. Compare it's rear end to the male's. Males have kinda noticeable testicles whereas females don't. if they haven't had babies yet then they're both probably the same gender.

The "mating" you saw may have been them establishing dominance. Sometimes gerbils "hump" each other to determine the alpha-gerbil.

  4. OK try this= get a tiny little ball and roll it around, the male gerbil will make the first move on it, where as the female will Kinna lay back==It's a matter of  fact, i heard it in a bar once about 20 years ago, this old guy had 5 of um = called um the gerbil trooters===  but that was a long time ago in a far away place == but still try rolling the ball, the male moves first, if only to protect=
