  1. Definately ask the person that you bought it from. Or ask someone working at a Cabela's or S.I.R for some info about it.

  2. A majority of trap shooting guns will be double barreled in an over/under configuration but the one thing I see that they all have in common is the long comb rail that travels the length of the barrel.

  3. If it is specifically set up for trap (and not skeet or sporting clays) the stock is often set up a little high. That is, when you bring it up to your shoulder an sight down the barrel, the front sight is high. In other words, you don't look flat down the barrel. when aiming, if the front sight and the rear of the barrel are even (looking flat down the barrel) then your shotgun can be used for anything you like: Field, skeet, sporting clays, trap, whatever. As someone above said, a traditional trap gun is an over/under.

  4. "...if my shotgun is a trap gun..." -- [not if it can be used for trap or skeet? ] Specialized trap guns typically have:

Higher comb on the stock.  Most trap targets are rising from the low set house.  The higher comb raises the guns natural point of aim.

28-30" barrels are common for improved pointing, sighting and smooth swing and follow through.  Whereas skeet barrels are sometimes as short as 26" for quicker handling, personal choice

Tighter chokes for the 25 yard minimum modified will work.  Full chokes may be preferred for the greater distances of the handicap lines.  Improved cylinder is a more open choke one step up from cylinder bore and close to skeet bore, better suited to these faster closer targets.

Trap is shot one target per shooter in rotation.  Several highly

specialized trap guns are single shots, single barrels.  All types of actions are common on the skeet field.

"shooting clay pigeons" -- any shotgun will work for breaking clays.  Different load, barrels, and chokes adapt the gun to the target's speed range direction.

  5. You don't mention what it is.

Very simply if it's a shotgun it can shoot clay targets. It can play several shotgun game too. Sporting Clays, Skeet and Trap.

I sometimes shoot Sporting Clays with these particular guys. they are pretty good and shoot expensive shotguns. I invited them to go on a duck hunting excursion. I always shoot Clays and ducks with the same shotgun. A Remington 870 Express magnum 30". The guys didn't want to bring their fancy guns so they brought other shotguns. One guy couldn't remember to pump the shotgun after each shot because he was used to an auto loader. They fumbled reloads and had a hard time.

Nobody snickers anymore at my home camo paint job on the 870 since it brought down 90% of the ducks that morning on the lake.

It's your shotgun make it work for you. It can do everything if you want it to.

  6. You can pretty much shoot any kind of shotgun for Trap or Skeet.

For Trap it is perferred that the shotgun have a full choke or an improved choke. That allows for a tighter pattern to increase chances of getting a hit.

For Skeet, it's almost the opposite. It is recomended to use an open choke or a modified, to allow a wider spread. This is because Skeet are thown at a higher speed than clays.

When you go to shoot Trap, wait til the clay is in a kind of  "hang time". That way you dont have to lead the clay.

For shooting skeet you have to lead the target and spread the shot pattern so the skeet flys into your shot spread in order to get a hit. Again this is because Skeet are thrown alot fatser than Trap clays.

  7. You forgot to tell us what kind of shotgun you have?

  8. you don't need a fancy trap gun ANY shotgun will do, but i would recommend a 12 gauge
