  1. what the guys said above me is correct, however based on your own personal skill that might not be the case. what the guy above me should have said is if you set up CORRECTLY then the toe of the club should be in the air if the clubs are to long for you. What I use with golfers that ask me and i've never seen them set up i always tell them to look at the divot and feel the shot. if your divot is deeper on the side closest to you when you take a shot and you sometimes feel like you hit the ball on the heel of the club then the club is too long for you. This eliminates the error of making a judgment based on your initial set up seeing as how it might be wrong. keep it in the short grass.

  2. Set up as if you are going to hit the ball.

The bottom of the club should sit flat on the ground.

A sure way to know if the clubs are to long for you is if the toe of the club sits off the ground.

  3. your-ma,

The standard length for a driver is 45", the standard length of a 5 iron is 37 1/2". The wood clubs 1, 3, 5, 7... each have 1" difference between them, getting shorter as the number gets higher. The iron clubs 5, 6, 7... have 1/2" difference between them. Therefore the 5 iron would be 37 1/2", 6 iron would be 37", 7 iron would be 36 1/2" and so on. The 4 iron would be 38", the 3 iron would be 38 1/2" and the 2 iron would be 39" long.

But you have to remember if the club at this length is too long (like the others said) at address, the toe of the club will probably be sticking up in the air or off the ground. The club probably won't lay flat on the ground for you. Most clubs can be bent for their lie. Usually up to about 3*.

    Hope this helps,

    J

  4. Go to a golf (and tennis) superstore like martins or golf dimensions and they will help you if you "act" like your going to buy from them.

Most OTC golf clubs are fit for the average golfers height of 5' 10", so you can even go to Wal-Mart and compare leangths.

Once you get serious about golf, you should get your clubs fitted to you, or buy 5'9" clubs of ebay or something.
