How do i know if things i hear, and see are ghosts?

i keep hearing dog footsteps, its scarying me, and driving my yorkie crazy.

maybe it is something in the wall (mice?)...otherwise, get some holy water and sprinkle some at the sound, especially on the sound.  If it goes away then you knew it was something "other"

Trust your gut!  Many will tell you that these "things" can be easily explained away, or that they are pranks, or, worse yet, a figment of an over-active imagination.  Best thing to do is A) keep a journal; B) take pictures (especially when you feel you're being watched, or get an eerie cold feeling you cannot explain; try not to show your fear - Spirits pick up on your fear & it gives them the energy they need to "feel alive" again.  C) call for help!  look for those who are gifted in this field of paraphysicology or ESP

try to be aware and see if you have an opening at some part of the house. maybe you do and a dog actually comes in the fence. If there is no openings or holes around the house so a dog can go in the house, get a big dog. if it continues, go to a mental health provider, maybe you have a problem

well, you would have to go to someone that is of the elemental world to know if you can see, or hear things of the supernatural. Spirits can only show themselves to mortals if they are somehow related to them, but other spirits like, a spirit of elemental things, like an angel, a witch, can communicate with anyone at anytime in the afterlife. O and your yorkie is going crazy because they can see the elemental world as well.

You need to give more info.  How long have you lived there?  Did you just move in or has it been years?  Are you upstairs or downstairs?  What time of the day do you hear it?  Daytime?  Nighttime?  Can it be anytime or is it only at a certain time?  Does anyone else hear it besides you and the dog?  

The main thing with footsteps or in this case paw steps, is that it could be a residual haunting. Maybe the person who lived there before you loved dogs and had several of them either all at once or over the course of many years.  The sound of the dogs trotting around recorded itself on all the things around it and sometimes it plays itself.  This often happens in theaters where you can hear people clapping and laughing when no one is there.  It happened so much, it was imprinted on the surroundings and plays sometimes.

Nothing to be afraid of in any way.  See if you can find the history of your house to be sure.

In a calm but strong voice tell the spirit to leave, that this is your house and it is not wanted here. That happened to me once. When my second cat died I would constantly see her shadow or see her face or hear her meow. It hurt me too much, and I knew she didn't belong here. What u are hearing maybe happening now or it is the past repeting it-self, Either way what you are hear is real... now if you can tell me what else you are hearing I can tell you how to get rid of it..... And it you are going to pray to God then pray to God and not to  some bucket of salt and oil................

Hey a phantom dog is cheap to home, and doesn't mess up the place. I would rather have one of those than anything else.

It could be he/she is attracted to your loving nature of animals - or your similarity to a previous owner.

Use a paranormal investigaton team if you want to make sure.

I stayed at a place that had someone in hobnail boots run down the stairs through the room and out the front door - and close the gate. It was only when I checked the door was still locked I realised it wasn't anyone alive. Both me and a friend heard it and felt the floor bounce.
