How do i know my donations are going to the people who really need it?

I think deciding on a reputable organisation is a really important decision to make.  It also depends on the type of donations you are making.  If you are making monthly commitment to something like child sponsorship, researching and picking a well-renowned organisation is a good idea.  Looking at how the organisation reports on how they spend their money is also really important.  Before you make your decision, check out their financial statements and see how transparent they are.  At World Vision Australia we know that you choosing to donate your money to us is a decision not to be taken lightly and because of that World Vision has external audits done around its financial statements.

If you are passionate about ending global poverty and care about all those millions of people in suffering, a great way to help them is through child sponsorship.  And through child sponsorship you have the opportunity to see how your money is helping your sponsor child.  You will receive an annual progress report on your sponsored child plus an updated photo, direct from the child’s community.

You also have the opportunity to write letters or emails to your sponsored child, and you may receive letters from your sponsored child, telling you about the changes you are helping to make in their life.

if you give to local charities then they usually have things they can give out that tell you how the money was spent.. , how much was brought in, etc.. you just have to ask for them.. If you are not donating locally there really isn't a way to find out.

Make sure you donate directly to the charity and not through telemarketers.  Telemarketers keep a percentage of your donation.

I know of a children's charity where the telemarketers keep 85% of your donation!!  But if you donate to that org. directly, 100% of your donation goes to the chid!!

You can't.  That's why i donate directly to the people who need the help.  I get to see the smile on their faces.  You can do this.  .
