How do i know what kind of brake pads i need for my trek bike?

i ride a trek 2.1 and i need new brake pads do you guys recomend that i going to the trek store and getting brake pads or is it all right to just go to a bike store and get them

  1. get "kool stops" youl never know how good brakes can be until you try em. theyre on ebay pretty cheap.


  2. All bicycles regardless of brand use standard components from Shimano, Campagnolo, SRAM, or a few others.  The brake pads for these brakes (as well as some better quality aftermarket pads) are available at any bike shop.  You do not have to go to a Trek dealer specifically to get them.

  3. Agree with the above answer.

    My Trek, a Fx model, came the orignal Trek brake pads.

    They did the job at hand, but Kool stops are much better, as i find they are longer-lasting and handle the rain better- and they don't cost much more than the other basic models.
