I am a complete beginner, i've played some pitch and putts but not much, just want to be able to go out with my friends golfing on a real course a few times a week. I am wondering if there is a way to tell like the length of the clubs you should buy, I am 5'9. Also, if i want to buy a complete set but not something ridiculously expensive could you recommend something. I am a lefty too i don't know if that makes a difference.

  1. If you go to pinggolf.com

and do the interactive club fitting, they will tell you your specs! And you can print them!

    Hope this helped!

  2. hey being a beginner is no problem! You choose your clubs according to your height and how far you need to hit. For example a nine iron is shorter and has a more open face so when you hit the ball it will go higher and less further than say a 4 iron. A driver (the one which is like a ball ovalish in the front) is flat so it goes really far. If you are a lefty then the clubs have to be facing in the opposite direction than a rightys. You can't play with a rightys club. You could buy a good callaway set not too expensive and not too cheap. If you want a perfect club fit, go to the pro shop in near golf course and they will tell you the perfect size. There is usually an adults set and a kids set, but there are different sizes in an adults set for the picky (not necessarily bad) people

  3. A clubfitter would take a "WTF", also known as a "wrist to floor" measurment to find the starting point for a static fit.

Then to get even more detailed, a dynamic fitting would take place; based on lie angle, and the type of contact the golfer makes with each club, at a given build length.

Being 5'9", you can probably play with standard length clubs, sold straight off the racks of many sporting goods stores.

  4. Well, since you're a beginner, I would say to not buy the most expensive clubs until you really know how to play.  Just go to some golf place and they can help you.  Maybe Taylor Made or Wilson to start out with, then get something like Callaway

  5. if you are 5'9 then you are probably good with standard length clubs.  if anything you might have to choke up just a little bit.  As for a set of clubs, go on ebay and check out some used clubs.  Most local golf shops will have a used section or "bargain bin".  also check out your local classified ads or craigslist.

  6. Golf clubs have two major features that directly influence how far and how high the ball will go when hit correctly with each club. What you are looking at in the illustration is a full set of golf clubs, including the woods and the irons. Beginning on the left are the wood clubs (larger heads) numbered from 1 wood, 3 wood, 5 wood and 7 wood. Progressing the irons (smaller heads), starting from the left, are the 3 iron, 4 iron, 5 iron, 6 iron, 7 iron, 8 iron, 9 iron, 10 iron, and 11 iron (also known as the sand wedge). Note that there is a difference in length of one-half inch between each club in the set.

Remember from your high school physiccs class that the longer lever, the greater the force? It's OK if you do not remember, because I am reminding you now. With a longer club, applying the same amount of power, you will be able to generate more club head speed. The result will be a longer shot. Going back to high school physics again, the loft of the club face will determine the angle at which the ball bounces off the club face. Picture the extension of the magnet on the club face as representing the initial flight of the ball.

To gain a graphic perspective of the loft, or slant, of club faces, set a tee on the face of the club, with the flat end of the tee on the face. For the purpose of illustration we have placed a magnet on the club faces of a 10 iron and 4 iron.

In most sets there will be a difference of four degrees of loft between clubs progressively through the set.

  7. Hey m8 do what i do,

go into a fancy gold shop and say can you see what type of gold clubs i have to have (size and everything) and they will say than you dont have to buy from that fancy shop because it will prob cost alot, so you go any other golf shop or online and look for what they said :)
