How do i know when my 30gb video ipod is done charging

my freind left his ipod here at my house cuz he doesnt know if it works.when i plug it into my computer the ipod has the battery symbol then it changed into a sentence that says dont unplug with a circle flashing in the middle how do i know when its done theres no light to tell me that its done

when the ipod's 'do not unplug' symbol goes away.

when the battery changes into a plug symbol, it is finished charging.

when it is a lightening bolt, it is still charging.
