I'm trying to mate my bettas right now and i've conditioned them both but he's being very agressive. I know that they're suppose to be a little rough but when is it too rough. When should i separate them if they dont mate?

  1. until the other starts to float to the top

  2. If they are 'fighting' rather than 'mating', separate them.  Can you divide your tank, so they'll be able to see each other, but not get at each other?  Then you can watch for them both being ready, and then pull the divider out.  When she finishes dropping her eggs, remove her right away, for her safety (the male will chase her away), and because she may try to eat the eggs. Put her in a separate tank.  Have the male & eggs in the tank where you will raise the fry.  When the fry hatch, remove the male to his own tank. The male is into tending eggs.... fry will look like snacks!

    Good luck!

  3. well the male will make a nest and if you have a glass plate then carefully remove the glass without wrecking it...when he chases the female you should seperate them

  4. you seperate them if neither is ready to mate or the female is displaying stress lines if she is doing fine remove her when he rips or maybe half her tail
