  1. I got mine done recently as I was beginning to feel them lose their grip on corners and I felt less secure as a result. Mine lasted me for ten sessions but that was going fairly infrequently.  I've been going more regularly of late so I'm not sure how often I will need to do them.  Its a very individual thing and may depend on your weight and the hardness of the ice you skate on too.

  2. I use my figure skates about four times a week and I usually sharpen them twice a month. However, if you don't use yours very often, you shouldn't need to sharpen them that often. When you feel like your skates don't have a really good grip and you can't keep your balance as well, that probably means that it's time to sharpen your skates!

  3. u will notice when its time to sharpen your blades when u start to feel yourself slightly sliding sideways on your blade easier than normal.

for example when holding an edge getting ready to enter a spin u can slightly feel that your drifting on the ice a bit.

if this starts getting worse then yeah i recommend this is when u get them sharpened ... or ur gonna be doing drifts going around corners ... lol

you can also test if theyre getting blunt by scraping the surface of your nail on the ball of your blade (as this is the part you use often) if the blade is "shaving" the suface of your finger nail then they are still reletavelly sharp.

if your not sure ask your coach for sum tips aswell
