How do i lance my guinea pigs abscess at home?

we took him to the vet but couldn't yet afford the treatment so my vet told me to buy betadine and lance it at home and inject the diluted betadine solution directly into the abscess. how do i safely lance it? and how much is safe to inject? also what behavioral changes should i expect? i would ask my vet but he's getting annoyed with all the phone calls and questions.
