I am really interested in learning how to draw. I can picture something in my head so clearly and when I try to draw it, its so bad and looks nothing like how i imagined it. is it possible to learn how to draw if you have never drawn anything good in your life? how?

  1. Yes, practice!! Look at things sitting around in your room and just sketch away. Do it lightly at first so if you come back to it and something is off it will be easy to erase. It isn't going to be perfect at first. Just start drawing and look at things in your pictures and try to pick out things you need to work on, like proportion.

I highly recommend going to www.deviantart.com and checking out some tutorials. When you get there, a tab on the left side of the page will say "Browse" above it. Do this:

    Click Resources

    Click Tutorials

    Click Traditional Art

And then make sure the "All time" button is selected on the right/top side of the screen or else most of the tutorials won't show up. And of course browse through the drawings of other great artists...and there are some unbelievable artists on that site. Really sorry this is so long, and I really hope it helps!!

  2. Practice! No artist in the world started out drawing things the way they imagined them. Imagination is the key - get lots of books from the library and go to town! And remember that negativity is your biggest enemy. If you love to draw there's no such thing as a bad drawing, because you learn something every time you pick up a pencil. Have fun!!

  3. Yes it definately is possible. I've been drawing since 6th grade and its my senior year now and I'm in AP Drawing. At first I was terrible, but it all comes from practice. I would suggest trying to draw from a photograph first before trying to draw from your head.

Also for very accurate reproductions of photos, I use the grid system. This may be a bit hard to explain but ill try:

On the photo, divide the picture into 1 inch squares so you have a grid on the picture. Then find a paper which has dimensions twice that of the photograph and divide the paper into 2 inch squares. Now draw what you see in the 1 inch squares on your 2 inch squares on the paper.

This is the best way to get started but my best advice is to just keep on drawing.

Theres also a website where you can post your drawings. deviantart.com

Get an account there and post your pieces and ask for advice. I just got an account there and its great although many of the people draw anime (which I'm not into) theres still artwork from all kinds of categories.

    Hope this helps!

  4. take art classes at school each year and eventually you will get better and better at it....your middle school should have it as an elective and if or when your in high school you should have art and advanced art.
