  1. Wicca itself is a religion, as has been said above.  It is a version of "neo paganism".  Witchcraft is a rather broad term.

I take it though that you're curious about the occult in general?

  2. Read books by Scott Cunningham and Christopher Penczak. Scott Cunningham's book are on Wicca, Christopher's book's dicuss Paganism in more general terms. These are the best places to start.

There is also the Mystic Wicks forum website. They have discussion groups, online classes, and a lot of general information for people new to Wicca and Paganism.

    Welcome.

  3. You can find a lot of information online, in books, and online groups. However, you will find that not everyone agrees on certain things based upon their tradition or personal practice, so one thing that I find to be amazingly helpful is to look for a Mentor who can help you both with the information, and the practical application. Good luck and Blessed Be.

P.S. Magick by name of Paganism, Witchcraft, and/or Wicca is most definitely true and potent.

  4. Also read Raymond Buckland's Complete Book of Witchcraft. The Big Blue Book will give you a lot of valuable historical information. Just don't follow his practice too closely - he's a stauch Gardnerian Wiccan and you won't develop your own practice very organically if you follow him too closely.

  5. I think that Wicca and Witchcraft have been explained to you so far, my only comment is regarding Magick (as opposed to magic).

Magick, in the broadest sense, is any act designed to cause intentional change. The spelling with the terminal "k" was repopularized in the first half of the 20th century by Aleister Crowley (a British occultist and incredible talented, intelligent man) when he introduced it as a core component of Thelema.

Magic (without the K) refers to circus tricks, pulling a rabbit out of your hat etc.

  6. That stuff really isn't true.

  7. To clear up the terms (as this seems an issue with other answers), Wicca is a set of religions originally founded by Gerald Gardner in the 1950s incorporating ideas of ceremonial magic, traditional witchcraft, and European folklore concerning witches, and later was modified with ideals of the hippy subculture, feminism, and some small bits of poorly understood eastern theology. Witchcraft generally refers to either traditional witchcraft; which is a magickal practice used by the European peasantry for at least the last few hundred years, if not longer; or to the magickal practices of Wicca. By magik I assume you mean magick, which is one of several alternate spellings of the word magic in Middle English and is how it is spelled in several popular grimoires, and the spelling was preserved by several different secret societies prior to being brought back to public use by Allister Crowley. The spelling 'magic' however is still used by many different groups and practitioners as having the same meaning as magick.

If you want to learn Wicca, find a teaching coven, they're everywhere. If you want to learn magick, study various aspects of it and experiment and when you're ready for your teacher they will appear.

  8. This website as well as the books and information on it is an excellent source for everything you may need.

    Take care.

  9. Wicca is a religion.  Witchcraft is a magical practice.  "Magik" is a made up word used by people who think it makes them look clever.

I strongly suggest figuring out what these things are before you pursue them.

    Some places to start:

    http://wicca.timerift.net/wiccans.shtml

    http://wicca.timerift.net/book_recommend...

  10. The website www.religioustolerance.org has some good information on Wicca and other new religious movements.

  11. Perhaps you should explore a lil more before you decide what path to pursue.  I am a Pagan and that alone has a very large subject matter.  All of these are tied together but have such different context.  If you are serious keep searching you will find what calls to you more. Good Luck

  12. Sunshine you should be asking why you want to learn wicca I used it before you can open a lot of doors and I dont think you want to. My suggestion is learn how to use herbs and learn how to cure things thats more magical than witchcraft and more acknowleging. I searched for years on how to do magic and once you educate yourself its not magic at all witchcraft is mother nature go with the herbs you will get magic out of it.

  13. buy some on the subject and read them.  scott cunningham's books are pretty good.  go to witchvox.org and try to connect with local pagans, some people on there are willing to teach.
