How do i learn to do a backhandspring without a trainer?

okay so ive been in tumbling since i was 4 years old.! and i can do an extremely fast back walkover/limber whatever you want to call it. but i just cant get the beginning jump down for the handspring.! i have no problem whatsoever kicking over its just the jump back. i cant go back to tumbling with all the stuff going on at school and ive been cheering since the 3rd grade. i still cant do one. i really want to make high school cheer next year but you need to be able to do a back handspring. help.!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. You don't learn how to do a back handspring without a trainer. Do you have any gymnastics friends that can spot you? Anybody who knows what they're doing can spot you. When my sister first started doing back handsprings, she found that she jumped higher if she "started", you know, the whole "arms by your ears" competition starting? Also, when you go down in your squat position, don't squat low, because then it's harder to get a good jump back.

    And remember, always practice with a spotter! No exceptions! :) Good luck!
