Just bought a used table and have it set up almost to the point of putting the felt on, but the slate is off just a little bit. I just want to know how to get the seams perfect and then the best way to make sure it's totally level before I finish it

  1. Life_love pretty much has it. Just thought i would give you a link to check out. It shows you step by step how to level and seal the slate. Note that they use a sealing wax but i'm sure bees wax would work just as well. If you need any help or tips on recovering your table you will find that all on this site as well. The only other thing i can add is if you're not absolutely sure of what your doing you might want to hire a pro. I know it costs money but it could save you a bunch in the long run. If you need a pro call your nearest pool hall or bar room and they should be able to hook you up with someone.  Good luck to ya.

  2. First you should level the frame of the table using the adjustments on the legs if there are some. Then the slate should be installed and shimmed from underneath where it rests on the frame. You can use good old fashioned wood shims that can be picked up at Home Depot or Lowe's. Once you have it leveled you can fill in the joints between the pieces of slate with bees wax to make the playing surface smooth, then put your felt and rail system on. I hope that helps!
