How do i locate objects in the sky with my telescope using setting circles?

i need to know how to start the setting circles and how to use them

  1. The first thing you have to do is get your equatorial axis aligned perfectly with the north celestial pole.  (I'm assuming you're in the northern hemisphere and have an equatorial mount.)  Your owner's manual should have detailed instructions on how to do this.  Then you set the gauge rings on your setting circles to the RA and Dec of a known star, by getting it right in the center of your view.  Use a star fairly close to the celestial equator.

    Now all you have to do is look up the coordinates for any object and move your scope until you hit those on the setting circles.  You should be looking right at it.

    If you are using an alt-az mount, this whole process is a lot more complicated.  Add a detail to your question if that's the case.
