How do i look after mud and mask turtles

i really want to get a turtle/tortoise preferably a mud and mask as they grow up to only 5 inches in width or length?

How do i look after them and what do they need to live?

Can they come out of water?

  1. Figure 10 gallons of tank per inch of shell (cumulative). They don't bask much but you can make them a ramp out of hardware cloth in case they want to get out of the water. Both mud and musk turtles are pretty much carnivorous throughout life. Live earthworms, fishes (not goldfish), and soft-bodied insects are good food. Strips of liver dusted in bonemeal are good too.

    Resist the temptation to handle them unless you absolutely have to do so.
