How do i make a Pattern on photoshop CS3?

Plzz Help Me i downloaded Photoshop CS3 & i kno how to get the photos But i dnt know how to work the tools?

i want to make a pattern like that one down there??

I know how to do that but I can't explain it properly through text as diagrams would be needed to make the directions more efficient and easier to understand.
