How do i make a REALLY LOUD cannon with PVC?

I was out on the boat at my cottage and there was a guy with a PVC cannon (that looked like a potato cannon) and he kept spraying something in it.

And when he shot it, it made a REALLY loud noise.

It didnt shoot anything it just made a loud noise.

What is it and how do i make it?

look up "Carbide cannon"- i made one from pvc pipe & a bbq grill ignitor- it's louder and safer than hairspray- i use an acetelyne plumbers torch instead of carbide- its insanely loud.

Most people I've known who play with PVC potato cannons use cans of hairspray for propellant. That might be what he was using.

Most flammable aerosols can be used for cannon propellant, but exercise extreme caution.

As for the volume of the noise, different barrel lengths, propellant chamber sizes, and barrel diameter all affect the noise a cannon will make.
