  3. Hello,

(ANS) First of all as an experienced computer person my advise is DON'T ever use or rely on the windows system restore feature for backup's. Why? because if your machine gets a virus or infection so can the system restore. So you may think you have cleaned off the virus, run the restore only to re-infect your machine all over again.

No.1 Windows does come with a VERY nice back up tool kit. (both windows XP & Vista). SEE: start button, start menu, programs menu, accessories, see> system tools, > see backup.

**YES! you can & should make full or complete backup's using the Microsoft windows backup tool. The backup tool also has a nice wizard that will help step you through making your backups.

**What too backup on your machine: the main system or boot drive, this is the drive (hard disk & partition) that contains windows itself i.e. C:\ drive, ALL your installed applications or programs (c:\program files), also ALL your user profiles & settings i.e. c:\Documents and settings. Also the machines system state, and any other files or data of personal importance to you.

**The MS backup tool can also or alternatively make whats called an Automated system restore set (ASR) and this is another reliable backup method that you could use.

**TIP! Always virus scan & Malware scan your hard disks BEFORE you make ANY backup sets.

OTHER RECOMMENDED FREE-WARE backup programs for windows are:-

    a) Drive Image XML (free for personal use)

    SEE:-http://www.runtime.org/driveimage-xml.ht...

    b) Version Backup (free for personal use)

    SEE:- http://www.versionbackup.sb-aw.com/

**Use either an External USB hard disk drive for storing large backup files or they should be saved or burned onto a CD-D or DVD disk for safe keeping.

    hope that helps?

    Ivan.
