How do i make a gravy with red wine from the jus left over from ground beef?

i'm trying to make hamburger steak with french style wine gravy.

  1. there is no jus left over from ground beef. it's water and fat. you'd have much better results using beef broth. to make the gravy, in a small saucepan melt 1 tbsp. butter. whisk in 1 tbsp. flour. cook, stirring constantly over medium heat, for 1 minute. whisk in 1 cup beef broth, slowly, so there's no lumps. then whisk in 1/4 cup red wine and a few dashes of worchestershire sauce. add a little black pepper to taste. heat until bubbly and thick. enjoy!


  2. that's not au jus,..it's grease and water.

    Drain it off, but do not scrape the pan.

    Use your red wine to deglase the pan, scraping all the little cooked bits off the bottom as it heats up.

    Toss in a couple of pats of butter and season with salt and pepper to taste.

    Simmer until the wine reduces by about half. It won't be thick.
