i saw it on a home improvement show one time... they made it out of wood and covered it w/ material or whatever... then they screwed it in the wall behind the bed.. it looked pretty cool for a headboard on a budget.... can someone tell me exactly how to do it? like... is there something between the wood and cover? what kind of wood?

  1. My daughter hung a rattan blind behind her bed, I was surprised how effective it was.  We covered an old door, ourselves because the old chipped flat door was 5.00 at a yard sale and a sheet of plywood is 30.00. We basically glued on foam, wrapped around the edges and built a huge *pillowcase*, (found a great bedspread at ano garage sale, old curtains would work too) pulled it over and stapled the bottom.  My husband hung it on the wall behind the bed with hidden small stainless brackets.   Simple!! And total cost was 19.50 including the foam from the discount bin @ the upholsterer - 3 pieces we glued to the door to make one.  For a buttoned effect, we hammered thin brass nails into the thread holes in old antique buttons I had been saving.

  2. Very easy

Cut a piece of wood the size and shape you want.  Then cover with Batting (thats that white fuzzy stuff, found at a fabric store) cut to about two inches larger than your wood, then cut the fabric three inches larger than your wood.  Lay the material on the floor, lay the batting on top of that and then lay the wood on tap of the batting.  Pull the fabric over to the backside of the wood and secure with a staple gun.  Start in the center of the top and then across from that  in the middle bottom then middle of each side.   Basically you are wrapping the front side of the piece of wood as you would a gift.

  3. Go to hgtv.com and search for fabric covered headboard.  They do it all the time. There are many different styles to choose, but the procedure is basically the same for all of them.
