How do i make a partition for linux?

im trying to install gos v2 on a vista home premium based laptop.i need to make a partition for it. and i dont know which version of gos is better v2 or v3. and what programs can i install on v2 or v3

  1. First of all u boot your system with any OS bootable and from the shown partition table delete the last drive of ur system, so that the space of deleted drive is transfered into unused space of ur HDD. Now restart ur system and now boot ur system with gosV3 disk and then select the option of "unused space" in the form of disk to install the OS. Then it automatically creates the partition supported by Linux.


  2. I don't use Vista.  At all.  But I don't recommend the above solution because Microsoft OSes write data wherever there is room and they can write anywhere on the disk then be very finicky about what happens when they don't find it.  So, Vista has a partitioning tool.  It may be on the install disk.  Before you look, the first thing to do is to defragment your hard drive.  Do that, then follow these instructions:

    Note what it says about Grub.  Some versions of Grub require extra steps to recognize Vista partitions.
