You need to buy a pattern. Fabric stores have tens of thousands of patterns from a dozen or more companies; they quite often have patterns for coats, even leather/shearling coats. A pattern will not be expensive compared to having to buy the material again :-) .

If you've never sewn before, you should have someone experienced (say, an aunt) help you because as with any construction job, you need the right tools and you need some know-how. Sewing leather or leather-look is also a bit more advanced than sewing a cotton dress; you need specific needles, a machine that can handle shearling, and some advice as to how to sew it. Having someone help you who knows how to sew can increase your chances of success.
