How do i make a simple door monitor if I believe someone is entering the house while I am away?

we need to know from the outside (before we open the door), if someone has entered while we were away. something that when it is "tripped" will not be obvious..the only thing I can come up with is scotch tape>>>>

sprinkle a little powder by the door. Just a small amount and look for foot prints. If your floors are light use something like talcum or if they are dark Cinnamon or nutmeg.

Just change the locks on the door and problem solved

Instead of tape, use a hair or two glued to the door and the frame.  Since the hair is so slim there is less chance that it will be noticed.

Depending upon your weather conditions...you could use tape if the sun and weather does not cause the glue to deteriorate. Match sticks, toothpicks stuck in a specific location so that even if it fell out, could not be placed back in the same spot...

I have sometimes place a bottle or common object just inside the door so that if the door were opened, the marker will be moved.

If you had a ribbon or string long enough to hang inside and it were to end up on the outside if the door were opened and then closed... it may work...
