the cheapest way lol  get a kid to stand on top of tv with a coat hanger and move around until the reception is better lol  works for me lol

Go to Radio Shack and spend a few bucks. Or check out garage sales, etc.

If you're too unmotivated to do that you can make a workable dipole from coathangers for VHF, and you can bend a coathanger in a circle for UHF. I've included a link below with some info on a simple one made from a car aerial; you can also find a lot of hits if you google "homemade TV antenna".

If you live in the fringes and want it to be even more effective then you need more elements or you need an amplifier.

But if you're in the US you'll be hosed in a few months when analog goes dark. You'll need a digital converter box. Enjoy that analog while you can, it's going away come February 19th.
