How do i make an icon?

a friend of mine drew me a picture of my oc and i want to make the headshot my deviant icon how do i go about doing this?

Sounds like you first need a scanner, to scan and digitize the image he drew.  Then you will need an image-editor program, to crop, resize, and clean up the digitized image.
