  1. The ingredients in moonshine are corn (usually flour or meal) and sugar and sometimes it's just sugar.

To make it you need to distill the liquor, which means you need to create a liquor mash and build a still, which is illegal. A home brew beer kit makes a mash (out of hops instead of corn) and the mechanics of the still are just heating the liquid and allowing it to cool, thus removing the water and concentrating the liquor.

The problem lies in the complexity of the still. There's plenty to muck up and most of what you need to build it isn't going to be laying around your house... unless you're a plumber or a steamfitter.

Unless you're going to sell it in bulk, it's more economical to buy liquor.

  2. First off, distilling is against federal law. That being said, you do need a still. Just basic beer making equipment won't work for the distilling process. Also, distilling involves high pressure steam and can be dangerous.

Sorry, I'm not trying to put a damper on your project but distilling is a pretty involved process that requires a fair amount of knowledge. Do a google search for a more step by step list. Wink, Wink.

  3. Whiskey

    INGREDIENTS:

10 lbs. Whole kernel corn, untreated

    5 Gallons Water

1 Cup Yeast, champagne yeast starter

    DIRECTIONS:

Put corn in a burlap bag and wet with warm water. Place bag in a warm dark

place and keep moist for about ten days. When the sprouts are about a 1/4" long

the corn is ready for the next step. Wash the corn in a tub of water, rubbing

the sprouts and roots off.. Throw the sprouts and roots away and transfer the

corn into your primary fermenter. With a pole or another hard object mash the

corn, make sure all kernels are cracked. Next add 5 gallons of boiling water

and when the mash cools add yeast. Seal fermenter and vent with a water sealed

vent. Fermentation will take 7-10 days. When fermentation is done, pour into

still filtering through a pillow case to remove all solids.

    hope this helps
