  3. The only way to get a credit score is to open some type of credit account.  Credit cards, mortgage, student loans, & car loans are all ways of starting. Utility companies do not report to the credit bureaus.  The good new is you don't have to be in debt to have a good score.  Open a card and use it for a very small purchase and then pay it immediately.
