i love watching thunderstorms that are far away, but when there is lightning striking in my yard, i panic. I was a Carowinds and an awful storm was there. i was screaming like crazy. When i got home, my family told me that i was the only person screaming. There were people just sitting around and eating icecream on benches! I ws running and screaming, "There is lightning hitting right there! Somebody help me! Dad! Make the lightning and thunder go away!!!!!!!!!" My face was red when i saw everyone staring at me. But last night, a storm hit right over my house. Lightning was hitting in the backyard and must have hit a powerline because our power went out. Then i got really scared when i heard thunder above the house. That probably meant that lightning would strike in my house. I was under my covers with my head under my pillow. I really wish that i could stop being sooooo scared of storms. I need advice of how to be able to look out the window and watch lightning hit outside in my yard.

  1. wow u r scared lol. uuummm well if im scared i go under the covers and raise up music. or try to take your mind off it. and try not to think about it!

  2. I think you need to figure out what it is that scares you.  A reasonable person is able to rationalize what is really going on.  It sounds like you become hysterical.

Lightning seldom strikes very close to any particular person regularly.  So, it isn't likely that your house, your tree, your yard, your other yard would all be hit by lightning in the same..well...ever....let alone the same storm.

You also need to understand that "thunder above your house" doesn't mean your house will be struck by lightning.  It simply means the storm is there.  But, even if your house did get struck, you'd almost definitely be safe.

  3. Umm, hearing thunder doesnt mean the storm's above your house

also, the power going out doesnt mean lightning hit the transformer or whatever..

you live in a ****** up place if lightning keeps touching down to the ground like really close to you lol..

  4. First, you must not get too worried about lightning hitting you. The chances of that are extremely small if you take the right precautions. For example, if you were to stand out in an open field holding something metallic, then you would almost certainly get struck by lightning. However, once you are inside a house or a building, the chances of you being struck drastically decrease. Lightning will not simply go through the window and hit you if you are just sitting there. When inside, you should avoid using the sink or the shower, as well as any electrical appliances including corded telephones (wireless phones are safe), computers, TV, etc.

Knowing how to protect yourself from something such as lightning will make you fell much better about dealing with it. You will see that it makes so much more sense once you know what lightning truly is and how it works.

    Stay safe.
