  1. Some filter are just loud.  You might want to get a new one.  It could be due to it vibrating on something.  Try moving it a little.  Also if the water level is not high enough it will make a sound.  I have the Whisper filter it makes a very quite low humm.  But if it is not hooked on the tank just right it will make a loud humm.

If you have the bubble filter that works with a bubble motor.  Those little motors are loud if you put it on a cloth it will quite it down a bit.

  2. what type of filter do you have?  I am assuming hangon.  What brand is it and what size is it (rated gallon capacity and flow rate)?  It has been my experience that the cheaper filters tend to be louder, also new filters just need to be broken in so to speak.  Remember no matter how quiet the filters are supposed to be they are never quiet.  The quietest and best filters you can get are canister filters, but this would be overkill for a beta.   I have an aqueon 55 powerfilter and it is fairly quiet, penguin filters are also pretty quiet.

  3. If it uses an airpump it'll be loud at night since it'll be vibrating. If its those ones like a tetra whisperer that make a waterfall then you have to add plenty of water in it.

  4. If it's a air pump then sit it on a folded cloth to deaden the noise.  If it's a larger tank with an external filter then make sure the water is to the top so it doesn't make a lot of noise when the water flows back into the tank.

  5. you stick it in a box haha

  6.     I flagged this question cause i always wanted a dog fish---but like you I can't tolerate that humming sound of fish filters at all.  Then how do I know how old the dog fish is cause they're 200$ and if I get an old one I'm screwed.    I will I could trust fish stores but atlas I don't, this fish slays me though.

  7. if its internal place the tank on some foam

  8. I am presuming it's a hang on the back and the water is making the noise?

First thing to do is raise the water level some, but there's also a way to spread out the flow some.

    Your betts will appreciate that.

Here's the link to how to do it.
