  1. smack them against the wall untill they become hard and tough

  2. It really depends. You just have to tough it out and keep playing, and develop thick skin.

You may have to play longer, You may have to try to hit the ball harder. You can try to wear some tape on your hands, which won't hurt your hand as much and you'll still develop a thick skin, but probably not as fast.

You don't want to play during the cold, because that's when it hurts the most and most often. Try to keep your hands warm, clapping your hands together helps a little, so it numbs your hand a little.

You really just need to keep playing handball until your hand swells up and becomes a little bit numb. Then you need play some more.

If you're a beginning handball player, I suggest that you don't play games with people right away where you can get shut out 21-0.

You need to play games against people that you can make contact regularly. It's a really good idea to have a warmup. And even better if you can go to the park alone and just hit the ball by yourself.

You need to be able to make contact regularly, and then as time goes by you can hit the ball harder and not swing and miss.

A small way that can help with developing thicker skin is that when you practice alone. Just stand still, bounce the ball on the floor, and hit the ball as hard as you can to the wall, then Catch the ball, and repeat.

Because if you bounce the ball, it gives you better timing that will allow you to hit the ball harder with better contact, as opposed to trying to hit a return ball back to the wall where your timing and contact won't be as good.
