My horse is very lazy and sometimes it takes a lot to get him to do something. But the thing is that when i have to use more spur and stuff he then gets worse and decides that he's not gonna do anything..and then we both get frusterated and its hard to work with him if he won't do anything right. How can i make him more responsive so that i don't have to use any spur and force at all?

  1. You could use horse products. Such as

  2. have you tried a higher protein feed?

im not saying hes not healthy lol the higher the protein in the feed the more energy they have... most feeds are 10-12% try upping it a tiny bit... it may help get him perked up!

  3. a complete feed in needed. Legends, triple crown, any southern states is an excellent choice. Check the bag, a 14% may be good. They also contain good baterica garunteed min. which no other feed does. This helps him digest, thus intake minerals, protien etc. better.

Also when diet is taken care of, a change in tack may be in order. Some horses know they can ignore the riders que. Try a more severe bit with a shank. This way you can control how severe your rein cues are.

If all else fails make sure he has no spine or joint issues.

Don't use supplements unless needed, a good quality feed will have the suppliments in them. and over all be cheaper than an inferior grain and suppliments added.

What feed can not do alone is fix joint and muscle problems. This you need medicine for.

Red-cell is good for making him fitter and helps heal his muscle tissues. so if he is sore and has trouble exercising this medicine can help. Stop use if it is not working or you reach the desired goal. It is not good to keep any animal on medicine, even safe ones, for longer than needed

    happy and safe riding! :)
