  1. The most effective way to do it is to get a whitening treatment at the dentist.  But it's also the most expensive, usually running around $200-$500 depending on the dentist and the treatment.

I got a Zoom whitening a year ago (that's where they use a laser to whiten your teeth) for around $250 and am still very happy with it. My teeth are not quite as white as they were right after the treatment, but they're still much whiter than they were before the Zoom. However, it's expensive and it does cause your teeth to hurt for the first day or two (random shooting pains).

I've also tried all the at-home remedies: the trays, the strips, the paint-on whitener. They made a little bit of difference but were ultimately a pain in the butt and just not worth it.

Whitening toothpaste helps a little bit in terms of preventing new stains from forming, but at least in my experience, it doesn't do much about staining on your teeth that is already there.

Finally, the super cheap whitening method is to brush your teeth with a combination of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. It tastes kind of nasty but does at least as well as the whitening toothpaste and it's dirt cheap.

  2. Get them whitened at a dentists office, maintain good dental hygiene.

  3. Hydrogen Peroxide, Crest White-strips and teeth whitening gum/toothpaste.

  4. The dentist will clean them for you
