He has beeen "holding" for about a year. His father fed him a hot slim jim that gave him the runs, so it hurt to go. WHen it went away he was still scared so held his p**p for a few weeks until he couldnt anymore and it exploded out of him, Ive tried enemas, prune juice, raisin, kristalose, glucose and bribes. Ive had temporary fixes, but he still hasnt broken the cycle. Any help please!! He holds for a month then goes, but it takes a week of p**p tracks on undies and a loss of potty trained ability. He has been potty trained for 8 months and has pooped regularly before. I know it must hurt!

  1. Nothing like making your kid psychologically distraught about going to the bathroom.  Dad should really think about what he does before he does it.  Start from scratch with potty training.  He needs to be reminded every day to "go".  To make it easier...give him some pasta with olive oil, it will help soften the go.  Stay away from enemas...he will be even more distraught.

  2. give him a alot of orange juice. like 4 glasses of that. he will have diarrea very fast. ok and if he tolds that u really need to see a doctor. its not safe at all.

  3. Give ur toddler a biscuit with syrup on it an some milk or a dounut an milk always work. You dont want to give him/her nothing that'll make em have diarrah u could really uppset their stomach

  4. It's all very well saying don't give him enemas but if he's holding for a week or more you've no real choice (intestinal auto-intoxication is a real danger).  Maybe another dose of the tube will motivate him to stop witholding.

  5. My daughter did this.  I give her mineral oil to keep things soft.  She's 3 1/2 years old and finally is potty-trained about 5 weeks ago because the constipation thing really took its tole.  She finally learned that going poo on the toilet won't hurt if she goes everyday and now she's so excited to tell us whenever she goes poo.  We bribed her with toys and that every time she went poo she would get a new "Littlest Pet Shop" animal for her collection.  Ask the pediatrician for more advice.  You might have to do another e***a to get out whatever he's holding onto but 1 tablespoon of mineral oil before he goes to bed will keep things soft enough where he can't hold it in.

  6. Try giving him a bit of sugar in water and see if that makes him wanna go more often! Make a BIG deal on how smart he is for pooping when he does... maybe sticker chart or something! that is the point where we are right now! Good luck!
