Complicated process, I suggest trying to find linux drivers for your network card. If that fails, try to find drivers for a card of the same chipset and try to write a kext for it. I can't give step by step details without knowing your network card.

In Ubuntu, there should be the bar at the top of the screen. Click on the internet one and it will pull up all the available networks. Just double click on one and it will connect.

If you can't automatically connect (I couldn't) then you can manually do it by typing in the networks name, IP, and WEP password if any.
