what materials are used to make molds, and how can I find them? Here is the mold that I am referencing.

  1. See the link below. It is comparable in that it covers the conceptual illustration and maquette (mini sculpture), the lifecasting/sculpt/molds/prosthetics for a body makeup. Given, with Batman pre- Dark Knight, it is a suit, not a body makeup, but the process in the video is not unlike the process for a suit fabrication.

    In general, you don't "find them", you make or commission them. It is not impossible to find, but you'll need to look for special effects, costume fabricators, or wardrobe people. The time, experience, and materials necessary mean you are going to pay anywhere from a lot to a whole lot...unless you get in good/make best friends with one of these people.

    A mold is a negative, and the suit is the casting (positive). To get the best, it's going to take money and effort, and good contacts with pros. The best bet for the average person is to just buy the best product they can find. It would take years (of learning/experience) and far more money to fabricate it yourself from molds. If you're up for that, then have fun with it and definitely get ready to research, buy books, DVD's, and network with other costume fabricators.
