How do i make symbols on the computer?

like how do you make these symbols on the comp w/o copy and pasting them? like how would i make these symbols on Y! answers?

i can't find any others right now but i have seen more. and what other ones can you show? like i mean actual symbols not just :) or :D or :P.

press on ALT + any number

example : ALT + 3 = ♥

If you have Window go to Start.

.Then search Character Map.

.Then open Character map go to the font "Times new Roman"

.Then you will see a varity of symbols like this....>

that last one is a japanese symbol. i dont like when people use it as a smiley
