  1. Incidentally, this is an important aspect of technique as well as just a basic concept. If you want to learn, one thing that you can do is get a small pop bottle (preferably empty) and set it on it's side with the opened top facing you.

Place the hand in your favored position and practice moving the tip of the cue in and out the hole. Then practice one sharp, accelerated movement. Once you can do this without touching the sides and making the bottle move, you have a great straight shot. It's one thing to make short gentle movements that are straight, but it's the one that hits the cue ball that actually matters.

Practice then with the cue ball, imagining a little spot or something on the ball and trying to hit that. Try to imagine putting a straight hole through the direct center of the ball.

If you hit the cue ball straight and centered every time, your brain will start to learn how the other balls react. If you are inconsistent with your cue technique, you will have a tough time progressing. You can learn the other stuff later.

I used to go to the pool hall with my dad for a while when I was younger and I met a guy who took it pretty seriously and he had all sorts of techniques to check his shooting style. He said this was the one he found most helpful and important.

  2. It's more about you rather than the cue stick; it's not going to play for you. Grip the cue lightly, keep your upper arm still while moving only from the elbow. Let the wrist move naturally. This should propel the cue stick forward to make contact with the cue ball, shooting it in the desired direction.

  3. You have to load it first.

  4. You say , in a commanding voice, SHOOT CUE STICK SHOOT!  If it doesn't listen then spank it's bottom and try again. Or you can try the video and online games category.

  5. One time only.

  6. I sense that you are referring to computer/Internet pool. If so, you're more likely to get the help that you're looking for by posting your question in the appropriate category/forum: "Online Games".

If my assumption is incorrect, and you are referring to real pool --- trickshottim's answer is right on the money.

    Good luck.
