I don't smoke, I get plenty of sleep, and I drink lots of water. I don't wear contacts anymore. In fact, the eye doctor thought it was the contacts making my eyes red, but I haven't worn contacts for several years now. Is there anything else I can do?

  1. My recommendation, 1 table spoon of flax seed oil daily(found at health food stores). Not only does this oil increase your tear production (ideal for those suffering from dry eye) but it's really great for the skin. Any patients who come to the office I work at are advised to try this if the suffer from dry eyes.

    Hope this helps.

Perhaps you are suffering from allergies???

  2. Other causes of eye redness:

  3. Visine, as you may know, is dangerous stuff and I wouldn't recommend it except for the odd family photo or special event. The preservative, BAK, is quite harmful especially when used regularly, and the fact that visine is a vasoconstrictor means that it can actually contribute to your redness, which is called 'rebound redness.'

Ice bags can help. Take a ziplock baggy, 5 or so ice cubes, and add water. do not fill the bag- instead, push or or use your mouth to suck out the air so that the bag is semi-filled. Put a napkin between your eyelids and the bag, and apply, either for a few minutes or until the ice melts.
