I am considering taking up swimming but i wear glasses and i cannot wear contact lenses (except a hard kind which i cannot tolerate). I cannot manage without my glasses. So what do people like me do when swimming. I have thought of having goggles made to my prescription. A friend told me that i can wear my glasses in the water. What do you think?

  1. when you say that you are considering taking up swimming i assume you mean as a sport (swimming laps, doing flip turns, etc)

in that case, you most definitely should not wear your glasses. they will get in the way and will fall off.

i was in your same boat. i have HORRIBLE eyesight and couldn't see a thing before i got my contacts.  it's really not that bad though. you can manage. the only things are that i couldn't really ever see where the wall was until i was basically right on top of it, but you eventually get used to it and can sorta guess when it will be getting close.

if you absolutely can't manage, then you will have to go with the prescription goggles. the only problem is that if your vision gets worse really fast then you won't really be able to see within a year or two.  that's why i just lived without them because my mom didn't want to pay $200 for a pair of goggles that could get lost or broken and needed to be replaced anyways within a year.

make sure if you get the goggles you take good care of them!

  2. I think you should get goggles with your prescription because I tried wearing glasses in the water before but my glasses fell down and someone almost stepped on them. I got my perscription goggles for like $60 or $70.

  3. you can get prescription goggles
