  1. It depends on model. Typicall there are 2 straps that go from the rack across the top of the trunk, two that attach at the bottom, and two on the sides, but it really depends on the rack and the car. If you don't have clear instructions, look on the manufacturers website.  If you still have trouble, stop at a bike store and see if someone there can help out.

  2. She is right. It really depends on the type of car you are mounting the bike rack to. Does it come with any instructions or has it been sitting in your garage for 6 years? haha. Well, if that is the case then this may help: First place the padded part against the back of the car with the arms of the rack above the lower portion of the support section. Thats so it is isn't upside down. Now, take the two top straps and try to get crazy and fit them to anything that looks strong on your vehicle that can support 2-3 bikes or just about 80 pounds. Try the bars that run parrallel to the car on the top, that should hold it in place. Then hook the two side middle straps to something that will keep it from going side to side. I use outer most left and right side of the bumper and then tighten it good. Then there should be two straps that run to the bottom so you can hook those to anything down below such as up and under the bumper too but only directly below it. I hope this helps and remember to tighten the lower straps once the bikes are on because the weight will push it down and loosen them.
