I have my WAEC "0" level result & i want to travel to the US to further my education, my father is a resident & citizen of US and he told me to make enquiries on the requirement for my attainment of a US visa but He is ready to fund all the expenses. Now i need details on how to go about either obtaining a student visa or a visiting visa to the US. Peters 234-01-7935690, peters_ade@yahoo.com.

  1. Is your dad a naturalized US citizen?  Was he a citizen when you were born?  I believe, and you'll want to double check this, that if he was a citizen when you were born, then you are a US citizen, too, which would mean you don't need a student visa.

If he naturalized after you were born, things are more complicated.

For assistance in this, I suggest you get in touch with the nearest US embassy or consulate.  It is the State Department in the US which issues visas, so these organizations will be able to tell you what you need to know.  See the websites below for more information.  Good luck!

  2. Depends what country you're from whether you need a Visa for visiting US.  EU countries generally don't need to get a tourist visa.  To study here, need to be part of a CSIET approved program or admitted to school, get Student Visa that way.

Don't you have dual citizenship? (because your father is US citizen).  If so, you need to get US passport, and then don't need VISA to enter US, to visit or to go to school.

If you claim citizenship through birth abroad to one U.S. citizen parent:

    Foreign birth certificate,

Proof of citizenship of your U.S. citizen parent, AND

An affidavit of your U.S. citizen parent showing all periods and places of residence or physical presence in the United States and abroad before your birth.

  3. I would get in contact with the nearest American Consulate office and ask for advice.

Why can your father, who is a US citizen, not help you in your effort?

Try to locate the nearest Immigration Office and go and ask for info.  You probably need to go there personally, as trying to find a real person to talk to on the phone is nearly impossible.

Good luck, don't give, you just need to stick with your efforts to get it done.
