  1. Unless you are running windows 98 you don't have MS-DOS. DOS is an operating system that ran behind windows 98. Windows XP Vista and 2000 run a virtual DOS. If you need to run a command  click on Start-Run-Type in CMD click OK, now you have a virtual DOS command prompt.

There are not standard firmware updates. Firm ware updates are particular for each piece of hardware your computer has. The only update you could possible need is a firmware update for your hard drives and even that is a long shot. Don't go updating firmware does not need it. It well severally damage your hardware

  2. The firmware (it's called the BIOS) is in a chip on the motherboard - you get updates from the motherboard manufacturer's site.

  3. You don't really open it -- it is *THE* operating system.  It gets launched at system boot.

If you mean open a command prompt (under Windows?) then you click start, select run, type CMD or COMMAND and click ok.

  4. when booting process press del, dont stop hitting the delete key if the ms-dos is not appearing.

and for firmware updates go to microsoft official site.

    google it!!!

    magandang araw!!!(good day)
