i have a propane tank that makes my oven work. the problem is it is difficult for me to light and when i use it i get a massive headache/feel weird in my head. is that a sign of a gas leak?

it is hard to light everything at once becasue i have to turn the gas on, turn the burner to the on position, and light the match...

Please tell me how to do this. the other day ia lmost blew myself up. i singed my hair and eyebrows.

  1. DO NOT OPERATE THAT THING UNTIL IT IS CHECKED BY A QUALIFIED GASFITTER!!!

You may very well have a carbon monoxide problem there! If the propane burners are not receiving fuel at the correct pressure and fuel/air mixture, you could be producing monoxide. This is a dangerous and potentially fatal condition! Headaches and dizziness are a definite sign of monoxide poisoning.

Trust me! I've been in the propane business for over 20 years! Do not operate that appliance! Get checked by a doctor, and then get that propane system looked at by a qualified technician before somebody gets killed.

Incidentally, you should always have the source of ignition ( I prefer the long BBQ lighters to a match ) near the burner first, and then turn on the burner. That way the fuel lights right away and you don't get a build-up of gas, which can then ignite quite violently...

      Be careful! and Good Luck!

  2. Propane is odorless, so the propane suppliers use a chemical to give the gas an odor, which is very noticeable. If you don't smell anything, you have one of two situations, which are: 1. best case, there are no leaks in the system  2. Worst case, perhaps you can't smell the propane (if it is leaking) and need to see a Dr. as to why you are unable to smell it. If you get headaches etc. when using the stove, it certainly sounds like you have a leak somewhere. If it were me, I'd consider a 2nd hand electric range and eliminate the problem altogether.

  3. youdont give any indication as to your location or very much information about the stove.

But this much I can tell you.

I was once present when a leakey and malfunctioning propane stove exploded in a backwoods cabin. Burned the operator,, and started the kitchen on fire (luckily we got it out.)

I seriously advise you to contact your propane supplier right away and have them come over and check everything out.

The ones I know have the experience and know how. Dont use the stove/oven again until you have this done. Just eat take-out for now.

Propane is different from natural gas,,,,it is under a very high pressure,,,,any leak floods an area with gas very quickly,,,,i could be a gas line or it could be the stove,,,,,,dont take any more chances.
